There was a rumor earlier this month that Comcast would offer a competitor to Verizon’s 300Mbps FiOS Quantum internet service, and now the company has officially announced Xfinity Platinum — a $299.95 internet package delivering 305mbps download speeds and a 65Mbps uplink, according to Multichannel. The service will be limited to Comcast’s northeast division, and the company didn’t mention whether it would be delivering these speeds over copper or fiber, or what kind of hardware will be required.

Comcast also doubled the speed of two of its internet tiers — Xfinity Blast! was increased from 25Mbps to 50Mbps, and Extreme 50 customers will now get 105Mbps. The company is launching Xfinity Platinum and the aforementioned speed upgrades this week in Boston, Hartford, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Harrisburg, Wilmington, Baltimore, Washington, D.C., Richmond, and New Jersey.
