Viber is a fairly well-regarded and free cross-platform VoIP and chat app, and the company just pushed out a new update that brings some useful new features for Apple and Google’s mobile platforms. Chief among those is a new, revamped voice engine, though it seems like only iOS users will be able to take advantage of that for now. However, both platforms will be able to take advantage of group text chat features and photos for the contact list. Viber also mentioned that it is “hard at work” to add support for Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, though there’s no indication as to when that may come. There’s also no word on when BlackBerry and Windows Phone Viber users might see this update, but hopefully it’ll be soon — neither of those platforms currently support Viber’s VoIP features. The updated app can be found for free now at the Google Play and iTunes Store now.
