NASA isn’t the only one celebrating the 40th anniversary of the Landsat satellite program — Google is also marking the occasion by releasing a series of time-lapse videos that show how our planet has changed over the years. Working with both the US Geological Survey and Carnegie Mellon University, Google has taken data from the Landsat archive to depict everything from deforestation in the Amazon to the rapid growth of Las Vegas. The time-lapse imagery spans from 1999 to 2011, and you can check them all out, along with interactive maps, on Google’s Earth Engine site.
