After a recent leak, Samsung has announced its EX2F, a compact camera that succeeds its earlier EX1 / TL500 model. The EX2F is meant to occupy the space between ordinary point-and-shoot and DSLR, offering more control than the former and a smaller form factor than the latter. It includes an F1.4 24mm lens and 1/1.7-inch 12.4-megapixel CMOS sensor, a slight bump from the 10-megapixel EX1 sensor. It’s got a 3-inch swivel AMOLED display, similar to the EX1, and can shoot 1080p video. Notably, it’s dropped some weight from the bulkier EX1: without battery, it’s now 294.3 grams instead of 356. It’s also added the “smart” features we’ve begun to see in cameras, including Wi-Fi connectivity for sharing pictures via email or cloud storage. We’ve not yet heard anything about availability or pricing, which will be a major factor in getting people to either trade in their cheaper cameras or forgo the DSLR.
