LG plans to maximize its use of the company’s many subsidiaries in producing a new smartphone, according to the Chosun Ilbo. The device’s development is reportedly being carried out to the “direct specifications” of company chairman Koo Bon-Moo and will feature a quad-core processor along with a camera of “over 10 megapixels.” LG’s subsidiaries such as LG Display, LG Innotek, and LG Chem produce parts for device manufacturers around the world, notably Apple, but Koo apparently wants to further leverage the company’s technical expertise in its own mobile products.

While there aren’t any more details on the phone itself, it’s said to be due out by September. The last LG phone we reviewed, the Optimus 4X HD, was a definite move in the right direction for the company, so we’ll have to see if a change in manufacturing philosophy brings further improvements.
