Artist Aram Bartholl is embedding a DVD burner into the wall of the Museum of the Moving Image, New York, as part of a new digital art exhibition. The work, named DVD Dead Drop, takes Bartholl’s original Dead Drops concept, a kind of offline file-sharing movement that utilizes USB flash drives embedded in public spaces, and transforms it into a content distribution portal; an “automated platform for dispensing digital culture to the public at any time, day or night.”

From August 16th, visitors to the museum will need to track down the slot-loading DVD burner in and insert a blank DVD to receive a digital art exhibition curated by Bartholl or selected artists. The content will change on a one month cycle, and the first exhibition, HOT, will run until September 15th. Just don’t forget your DVD-R.
