Last month the home of the late Steve Jobs was burglarized, and the perpetrator decided to give one of his stolen iPads to a friend — a friend who’s also a clown. Kariem McFarlin broke into the Palo Alto residence on July 17th, according to police reports, and took a number of items, including iPods, jewelry, and Jobs’ wallet. He also stole two iPads — one he gave to his daughter, the other to Kenneth Kahn, better known as Kenny the Clown. Kahn was unaware of the device’s previous owner until August 2nd, when McFarlin was arrested and the device was ultimately returned to the Jobs family.

“It would be like getting a football from Joe Montana that was stolen out of his house,” Kahn told Mercury News. “It’s bizarre; it’s really bizarre.” The professional clown and one-time San Francisco mayoral candidate reportedly used the device as part of his routine, as well as to listen to music, saying that he was “basically using it like an iPod.” Kahn says that the gravity of the situation still hasn’t set in. “If this thing weren’t so tragic,” he explained, “it would be comical.”
