Apple has just announced that Bob Mansfield, Apple’s SVP of hardware engineering, will remain with the company despite an earlier announcement that he would retire. Apple has also announced two promotions: Craig Federighi, VP of Mac software engineering, and Dan Riccio, VP of hardware engineering, have both been promoted to senior vice presidents who will report to CEO Tim Cook and serve on the company’s executive management team. Apple says that Federighi will continue to be responsible for Mac OS X development and for the company’s OS engineering teams, and Riccio will lead the Mac, iPhone, iPad, and iPod engineering teams.

It’s not clear yet what Mansfield’s new title will be — as expected, Dan Riccio has been promoted to fill the SVP of hardware engineering position — but Apple says that Mansfield will “work on future projects” and report directly to Tim Cook. We’ve reached out to Apple for comment on the executive shuffle.
