Following up on reports from last week, Microsoft has confirmed that it has acquired R2 Studios, a startup that was working on home automation technologies. While no details of the deal have been revealed, Microsoft has made it clear that this purchase was made in part to bring R2 Studios founder Blake Krikorian into the company’s fold. With the acquisition, Microsoft has announced that Krikorian will be placed as the corporate vice president of the company’s Interactive Entertainment business, which runs Xbox, Zune Marketplace, and Xbox Live. Krikorian was previously the co-founder and chairman of Sling Media, makers of the Slingbox.
