Futurist and artificial intelligence guru Ray Kurzweil has just started at Google and gave an interview to Singularity Hub days after starting his new work. For starters, Kurzweil plans to dive into natural language understanding, a particularly relevant point of interest for Google given its goal to organize the world's information."We wanted to give computers the ability to understand the language that they're reading," Kurzweil said. It sounds like Kurzweil's work will dovetail nicely with what Google's trying to do with Google Now, based on his visions for the future of search. " I envision some years from now that the majority of search queries will be answered without you actually asking," said Kurzweil. "It'll just know this is something that you're going to want to see."

It’s not the kind of project that’ll be accomplished overnight, but Kurzweil believes its of the utmost importance. “It’s ambitious,” he said, “in fact there’s no more important project than understanding intelligence and recreating it.” For more on where Kurzweil hopes to take machine knowledge at Google, tune in to the interview below.
