Ronald D. Moore, best known for the acclaimed reboot of Battlestar Galactica, may be bringing a new TV show to Syfy later this year. Deadline reports that Moore and SyFy are finalizing a deal for Helix, a thriller about “a team of scientists investigating a possible disease outbreak at an Arctic research facility who find themselves trying to protect the world from annihilation.” That’s not a terribly original premise — in fact, it bears not a little resemblance to The Thing, which Moore was at one point attached to a remake of — but then again, a pitch for the often superb Battlestar Galactica would have sounded pretty derivative as well.

The deal is supposedly for a full season of 13 episodes, rather than a traditional pilot followed by a tentative season deal. According to Deadline, it’ll be co-produced and written by the virtually unknown Cameron Porsendeh, but we’re still waiting for any more details, or an official confirmation that the show will be happening.
