The new opening cinematic, for the second installment of StarCraft II, shows off a huge Zerg mothership of Independence Day proportions, and an ensuing onslaught against besieged Terrans.

While cinematic trailers with high production values aren’t usually a good indicator of how a game will look and feel, StarCraft II: Heart of the Swarm is said to be a thoughtfully designed sequel in a highly-regarded series; our friends at Polygon have previewed the single-player campaign, writing that “Blizzard has sloughed off old design decisions,” giving the game more of an RPG-like feel. The game is set for release on March 12th, 2013.
