“I will not tell you whose voice leads us through three extreme situations that are actually the same,” reads the synopsis for Voice Over. “Will you survive?” The ten-minute-long short film from Spanish director Martín Rosete is a unique exploration of the role of narration in film — it feels as though the disembodied voice is speaking both directly to the characters on screen and you, the viewer, playing a much less passive role than your typical narrator. The same character (or, at least, three characters played by the same actor) is put through three agonizing situations before reaching the end of the film where — well, we won’t spoil the beauty.
