Is Google’s new Android statue made of Chrome?

There’s a new Android statue on Google’s campus, and it’s unlike any other before it. Android Community Manager Paul Wilcox posted a photo of the new chrome sculpture this morning, noting that it’s been installed at Building 45 on the Mountain View campus, opposite the lawn where the company typically places its statues. Judging from the image, the structure appears to be situated above an entryway, facing downward with one arm raised.

The photo has already fueled breathless speculation, and for understandable reasons. Traditionally, Google's statues have only been unveiled with the release of a new version of Android, leading some to wonder whether today's news is a sign of a newfound synergy between the company's Chrome and Android operating systems. Wilcox, however, was quick to dispel any rumors, saying he wasn't trying to hint at any larger plans.

“To be clear, this post is a little tongue-in-cheek and is not meant to be a sneaky announcement of a new version of Android,” he wrote. “It is, however, an announcement of a new statue.”
