HBO is bringing a new detective drama onto the air next year, and the network has released a dark new trailer to introduce it to viewers. The show, True Detective, will star Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson as detectives for its first season — but, like series such as American Horror Story, subsequent seasons will revolve around a new set of characters and a new mystery, rather than continuing the initial plot. The show kicks off as a murder from 1995 comes back under investigation in 2002, and will follow the pair of detectives across different timelines. It’s set to begin airing next year on Sunday, January 12th, and if the series’ eight episodes are all as eerie as the trailer suggests, it could turn into yet another hit for HBO.
