BlackBerry got yet another piece of bad news last week when it emerged that Rogers, the largest carrier in the beleaguered smartphone maker’s home country of Canada, would not sell its latest flagship device. Rogers has reversed its decision on the 5-inch Z30, however, citing an outcry from fans in BlackBerry’s traditional stronghold.
BlackBerry Z30 will come to Canada’s largest carrier after all
"We... continue to be big supporters of the company and their products."
"In response to customers' feedback and excitement about the device, Rogers will be offering the new Z30 to its customers," the carrier said in a statement obtained by All Things D. "We have a longstanding partnership with BlackBerry and continue to be big supporters of the company and their products."
Rogers’ president Robert Bruce had previously described the Z30 as “on the high end,” and “maybe a little niche-y.” The carrier’s about-face means that the device will be available to Canada’s largest subscriber base and, perhaps more pressingly, could restore a little bit of confidence in BlackBerry’s long-term ability to sell its hardware to traditional partners.
