The first US trailer for acclaimed director Hayao Miyazaki’s final film, The Wind Rises, has debuted online. While the trailer may not convey a clear sense of the movie’s plot, it gives a great look at the spirit of awe that Miyazaki — the director behind Spirited Away and My Neighbor Totoro — is so often able to imbue in his films. The Wind Rises is said to focus heavily on the joy of flight, though as a piece of historical fiction inspired by a World War II-era Japanese aircraft designer, it does appear to delve into the horrors of war as well.

This first trailer is silent aside from its score, so English-language fans will still have to wait for a look at Disney's dubbed version, which is due out in theaters February 21st, 2014. But while this may be Miyazaki's final feature film before his planned retirement, fans still have something to look forward to: he's already at work on a samurai manga, so there should still be more of his charming art and storytelling to come.
