“Ruby” is a time-lapse video that explores the idea of rebirth. Shot over five days by body artist Emma Allen, the video uses Allen’s face as a canvas, and complex paintwork to portray aging, death, decay, and reincarnation.

The metamorphosis has its weaknesses; the high points are without a doubt the more abstract moments where Allen’s face is transformed by flowers and stars, rather than the literal representations of death and decay. Nonetheless, it’s a well-designed journey with some truly dazzling moments, and one that’s well worth 75 seconds of your time.
