Colossatron is a game where you’re trying to destroy the world. But while its premise and setting are suitably epic, the actual gameplay has a surprising amount in common with match-three puzzle games like Bejeweled and Candy Crush Saga. You control the titular Colossatron, a massive, wriggling, robotic alien creature intent on wreaking havoc on Earth’s biggest cities. But you don’t actually control its movement or attacks — instead, your job is to add new links to the chain in order to help it grow as big and dangerous as possible.

Much of the strategy comes from matching colors. Link up three blue pieces, for instance, and you’ll get an even bigger and stronger piece of blue armor. You can also blend colors to get green, purple, and orange units, and each one has its own unique benefits — some heal, and some attack. This process starts out simple enough, but as the action ramps up the on-screen battle can become a distracting challenge, making it difficult to pull off the matches you want. Along the way Earth will defend itself with increasingly sophisticated military tech, from giant tanks to “doom jets.” There’s also a satisfying RPG-like progression to the game — as you lay waste to cities, you’ll earn cash that can be used to buy new abilities and upgrade current ones.

It’s simple, yet addictive, which shouldn’t be too surprising coming from the studio behind Jetpack Joyride and Fruit Ninja. Colossatron also has a terrifically wacky sense of humor that makes destruction even more fun, with the whole game presented as a TV news-style broadcast. You can grab the game for both iOS and Android at the source link below.
