If you’re even a little interested in the debate about the respective merits of film and digital cinematography, you should take a look at Christopher Kenneally and Keanu Reeves’s 2012 documentary Side by Side on Netflix this weekend. The movie saw a limited theatrical release last year, and is already out on iTunes and Amazon Instant Video, but now there’s really no reason not to check out the 98 minutes’ worth of interviews with Hollywood masters like David Fincher, Martin Scorsese, Steven Soderbergh, and Christopher Nolan. And with two films shot on digital in the running for this year’s Best Achievement in Cinematography award at the Oscars (Skyfall and Life of Pi), it’s hard to imagine a better time to watch.
