Unlike most theater performances, at the WiredArts Fest in New York it’s not only acceptable to pull out your phone and snap a pic or fire off of a tweet — it’s actually encouraged. As ABC News reports, the performing arts festival is making a large effort to be a social event, with everything from its own mobile apps to nametags where theater goers can jot down their Twitter handles. “It’s something that’s very controversial, but we want you to take pictures, we want you to post to Facebook, we want you to post to Twitter, we want you to do anything that’s going to make you feel excited,” founder Kathryn Jones explains. And you don’t even have to be in New York to catch the performances — the whole thing is being livestreamed so that you can catch all of the performances online. The WiredArts Fest runs until March 2nd.
