For season six of Mad Men, creator Matthew Weiner decided to promote the series with advertisements inspired by the ‘60s illustrations that play such a large part in the show. He gave the marketing team hand-selected advertising materials from the era, but he was disappointed with the results. Weiner tells The New York Times that the marketing team eventually “just looked up the person who had done all these drawings that I really loved, and they said: ‘Hey, we’ve got the guy who did them. And he’s still working. His name is Brian Sanders.’” The 75-year old British illustrator was brought on for the job, and his image will be used to promote the show in subways, on buses, and across magazines, newspapers, and billboards starting this week and leading up to the season premier on April 7th.
