New York is stepping up its fight against counterfeit IDs with a new driver's license that has some surprising security elements. Beginning this July, portraits will be in black-and-white, and they're said to be nearly impossible to forge. The images are laser engraved onto hard polycarbonate, and each element of the license is fused together into "a solid, monolithic structure that cannot be separated into layers and tampered with," the state's DMV told The New York Times. More details on the upcoming security measures, and the burgeoning counterfeit market is covered in the NYT's article, alongside a full history of New York State's driver's license.
