Google accidentally blocks entire Digg domain from search, is working on a fix

Earlier today, Google started blocking searches to the Digg.com domain — searches for “Digg” or “Digg.com” and site search on the domain brought up no results from the site itself. While some feared that Google made an intentional move to block the social news site, it turns out this is just a result of user error on Google’s part. A company spokesperson told us that while removing a “spammy” link on Digg.com, Google accidentally applied the spam filter to the entire domain. Google is already aware of the mistake and is working on a fix — things should be back to normal soon.

Google’s full statement:

We’re sorry about the inconvenience this morning to people trying to search for Digg. In the process of removing a spammy link on Digg.com, we inadvertently applied the webspam action to the whole site. We’re correcting this, and the fix should be deployed shortly.
