Behind the massive data centers at Google lies the Borg: a management tool that distributes information efficiently across servers. It’s estimated to save as much space as a new data center would use, and Google isn’t the only one with the idea — UC Berkeley Ph.D. student Ben Hindman began developing a similar system called Mesos in 2009 and brought it to Twitter soon after.
