Fans of Sony’s Ratchet & Clank know that the franchise has always been a natural fit for the silver screen, thanks to the series’ visual style, outrageous characters, and heavy use of cutscenes. Now Insomniac Games appears to have reached the same conclusion, confirming at PlayStation Blog that an animated film starring its characters is currently in production. Slated for release in 2015, the 3D feature film is being written by Insomniac’s TJ Fixman — who will be responsible for writing all recent entrants into the series, according to Sony. “With the movie, we have the opportunity to go back to the duo’s origins and use our knowledge to create a deeper, more meaningful story,” Fixman told Forbes. “In a lot of ways we’re reimagining our own work while keeping the franchise DNA intact. This lets us answer all the fans’ questions and theories in a big, cinematic way.”
Sony says ‘Ratchet & Clank’ movie in production, will hit theaters in 2015

Insomniac will be lending insight to the movie’s production team throughout the entire process, and the voice actors for Ratchet, Clank, and Qwark have all been attached to the film. Ratchet & Clank represents the second Sony-exclusive gaming franchise headed to theaters; a long-planned Uncharted film remains in the works, and Variety previously reported that God of War, Resistance, inFamous, Killzone, and LittleBigPlanet movies were also being discussed.
