Jorge Almeida has made his name designing the futuristic user interfaces of action and science fiction movies, most notably the extremely influential Minority Report. His work also appears in the recently released Star Trek Into Darkness, and he’s spoken to Inventing Interactive about the process, his design influences, and how he came up with the crew’s heads-up display. “I wanted to frame it around the actors face in a way that didn’t feel too tech,” he says. “I was trying to make it feel soothing, with a steady pulse — that way the animation had somewhere to go when things get dangerous.”
