“In five days time, you will die,” says a towering red robot to 36-year-old Max DeCosta, lying crumpled on a factory floor. The scene is from a new, extended trailer for Neill Blomkamp’s Elysium, showing us a lot more of the dystopian world DeCosta (played by Matt Damon) inhabits, and also revealing his motivation for trying to infiltrate the titular space station. It definitely looks to be a political allegory in the style of Blomkamp’s District 9, but with its heavy dose of guns, explosions, and cyborg swordfighting, Elysium looks like it’s carving its own lane. The film premieres on August 9th.
