For a while, it looked like the Wikipad would never arrive: the company’s promising — and expensive — 10-inch Android tablet and detachable gaming controller was never seen again after missing its Halloween release date. In February, though, it was reborn as a 7-inch tablet at half the price, and now Wikipad says it will go on sale June 11th for $249.99 at Walmart.com, BestBuy.com, and Tiger Direct.

That’s not a terrible price for what you’re getting here, assuming the build quality stays high: a Tegra 3 processor running Android 4.1 on a 7-inch 1280 x 800 IPS screen, with 1GB of RAM, 16GB of storage with microSD expansion, GPS, a front-facing camera, 802.11 a/b/g/n Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth 4.0, all wrapped up in a thin and light tablet that slots into the (included) game controller frame. It won’t be the most powerful Android gaming handheld on the block, though, now that it’ll have to compete with the $349.99 Nvidia Shield.

Still, the company and its tablet have been through enough at this point that you may want to exercise caution and wait for some reviews before you put money down. We’ll try to bring you such a review in the coming weeks.
