Since 2005, an estimated 30 patients worldwide have undergone experimental face transplant surgeries - extensive procedures that replace one’s skin, muscle, nerve and bone with that of a donor. Carmen Tarleton, who suffered deep chemical burns over much of her body following a devastating attack, is one of them.
