If you haven’t had a chance to check out Brad Pitt’s World War Z, you might want to wait just a little longer — Paramount Pictures has just announced the film will get a limited, one-week showing in IMAX 3D. It’s a bit of an unusual move, as most films are typically released in IMAX versions alongside the standard theatrical release, but Paramount said that “overwhelming demand” prompted the move to the even bigger screen. In our experience, seeing a movie in IMAX is generally a pretty excellent upgrade — particularly for a movie with the frightening intensity of World War Z — so this could end up being the definitive way to see the film. If you’re interested, screenings start on Friday, August 2nd and go through the following week until Neill Blomkamp’s Elysium premieres on August 9th. The odd man out in all of this? It could be Pacific Rim — as IMAX theater space is generally pretty limited, the push to get World War Z onto IMAX screens before Elysium makes it debut could mean a loss of screens for Guillermo Del Toro’s monster / robot epic.
