Although 3D printers are proliferating to the point where NASA plans to bring them into space, consumer-level machines still produce fairly crude results. Joaquin Baldwin has played that to his own advantage, however, by using the technology to recreate an equally crude subject — the cast of PlayStation RPG classic Final Fantasy VII.
3D-printed ‘Final Fantasy VII’ figurines are polygon-perfect

Cloud Strife, Sephiroth, Vincent Valentine, and others have all been printed out as full-color sandstone figurines, and are available on Shapeways with prices between $13 and $19. The results are startlingly true to the original game’s simple 3D models; with fans of the game crying out for a modern remake, it’s easy to forget just how basic the source material really was.
