As Microsoft announced at its launch event yesterday, the new Surface 2 and Surface Pro 2 tablets are now available for pre-order, with shipments expected for October 21st. The Surface 2 starts at $449 for the 32GB model, while the 64GB version is $549. If you’re interested in the Surface Pro 2, you have a few more options. The base, 64GB model with 4GB of RAM costs $899, while the 128GB version is $999 and the 256GB model is $1,299. If you really want to go all out for the best Surface Pro 2 you can get, you can opt for the high-end 512GB version with 8GB of RAM for a steep $1,799. No matter which Surface 2 or Pro 2 you choose, Microsoft is including 200GB of SkyDrive storage for two years at no extra charge.

Those prices are before accessories, of course, which you'll likely want to invest in, since they can turn your Surface into a laptop or desktop replacement. If you're interested in the new Touch Cover, Microsoft is asking $119.99 for that, while the updated Type Cover will set you back $129.99. Those looking for the new Power Cover, Docking Station, and Surface Music Kit will have to be patient, as Microsoft doesn't expect to ship those until next year at yet-to-be-announced prices.
