Roland Emmerich plans to reboot ‘Stargate’ as a film trilogy

Famed director and White House wrecker Roland Emmerich plans to reboot his cult classic sci-fi film Stargate as a new trilogy, reports DigitalSpy. Emmerich, who co-wrote and directed the original Stargate in 1994, went on to direct blockbuster hits like Independence Day, The Day After Tomorrow, 2012, and most recently, White House Down. Emmerich says he has already spoken to MGM to acquire the rights to the film, and will soon begin his search for a writer. Stars Kurt Russell and James Spader will not likely return for the films, he said.

Aside from Stargate, Emmerich also has plans for two sequels to Independence Day, titled ID Forever Part I and Part II. The first of the two films is slated for a 2015 release, according to IMDB.
