Blizzard’s digital card game ‘Hearthstone’ now in open beta

Blizzard’s addictive digital card game Hearthstone: Heroes of Warcraft is finally available to everyone. After a lengthy period in closed beta, Blizzard has announced that Hearthstone is now in open beta for players in North America, before opening up to the rest of the world over the next few days. “We are still very much in the testing phase as we prepare for the official launch,” the developer says. The free-to-play game plays out sort of like a streamlined version of Magic the Gathering, with quick matches and the standard Blizzard layer of polish that extends even to the tiny details. “We’ve spent an awful lot of time designing how the packs of cards open and how they flip over,” lead designer Eric Dodds told The Verge last September.
