The general consensus concerning SNL’s 40th season is that it’s on the weak side, but there’s no question Prince’s live performance will go down as one of the show’s finest. After a short introduction from host Chris Rock, the Purple One and his backing band 3rdEyeGirl slid into an eight-minute medley of tracks off his latest albums Art Official Age and Plectrumelectrum. And they basically melted the audience’s faces. Kendrick Lamar has a tough act to follow later this month.
