Watch this Japanese musician perform a piano battle against his own hologram

Holograms hit the mainstream in a big way back in 2012, when holograms of deceased rappers Tupac and Nate Dogg took the stage alongside Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg at the Coachella festival. Japanese composer Yoshiki used the technology in a rather unconventional way back at SXSW this year, however — rather than performing with another musician, Yoshiki performed a piano battle against himself. If you weren’t there in person to see it, Yoshiki just released a two-minute teaser of his SXSW performance on YouTube — if you’re into music or holograms, it’s definitely worth a look. While it’s probably easier to perform with a pre-recorded version of yourself rather than play with another live pianst, the effect of two Yoshikis battling it out is pretty mezmerizing — hopefully we’ll see more from this performance soon.
