The proliferation of excess computing power and near-constant internet connectivity over the last decade is certainly a big part of what's made Bitcoin's success possible. But there's no great reason that today's digital currencies couldn't have been around in some form when the internet started taking off in the '90s, and video producer Squirrel-Monkey has imagined just that. Its latest video shows what it might have been like to use Bitcoin two decades ago: browsing through an antique Internet Explorer, visiting websites adorned with flashy GIFs, and dealing with floppy disks when putting coins into cold storage. If anything, your bitcoins might have been a bit safer from hackers back then since you'd be spending less time online.
