To help drum up excitement for the release of the inexplicable Sharknado 2: The Second One, SyFy will debut a weeklong block of schlocky shark movies, all too appropriately titled Sharknado Week. Since the name trades on The Discovery Channel’s already immensely popular Shark Week, SyFy clearly wants Sharknado Week to go every bit as viral as the first Sharknado did last year — at its peak, the original drove more than 5,000 tweets per minute. Variety reports that the network will air such classics as Mega Shark vs. Mecha Shark and Sharktopus vs. Pteracuda between July 26th and August. Sharknado 2 will premiere on July 30th, featuring such performers as Vivica A. Fox and Judah Friedlander along with returning stars Tara Reid and Ian Ziering. There’s currently no word on whether or not SyFy will make this a yearly event, but we’re in big trouble if they do.
