The angry birds are transforming. Following the success of partnerships like Angry Birds Star Wars, Rovio is announcing a new version of the property that blends tossing birds with transforming robots. The aptly named Angry Birds Transformers will include a mobile game with an as-of-yet unannounced release date, as well as more Telepods, tiny QR code-enabled figures that can be scanned into the game. The new line will feature characters split into two factions: Autobirds and Deceptihogs. It might not seem like the most natural fit, but the franchise’s Star Wars spinoffs were surprisingly great, despite seeming to be cynical cash grabs. However, since then, Rovio has delved into the world of free-to-play with a disappointing racing game and its very first RPG. Later this year, the Finnish developer will be releasing yet another spin-off with its girl-focused Angry Birds Stella line.
