Kindle might be the more popular brand, but Kobo’s latest e-reader has one up on Amazon’s device — you can read it underwater. Kobo says its new Aura H20 is certified to be able to spend up to 30 minutes in one meter of water, making it ideal to use at the beach, in the bath, or as the company’s slightly unsettling press images suggest, after synchronized swimming training sessions.

The device has 265 dpi e-ink technology — the highest resolution currently available in an e-reader — and a 6.8 inch anti-glare touchscreen that should make books readable while paddling in a hotel pool. The Aura H20 appears more durable than its competitors, but the price for waterproofing is high. It retails for £140 in the UK, and €180 in Europe, while the Kindle Paperwhite is available for €70 less.
