Just a few days after promising a fix to a vulnerability in the Bash shell, Apple’s released an update that does just that. OS X bash update 1.0, which went out as a download today, fixes the Bash bug, or Shellshock as it’s become more readily known on the past three versions of OS X including Mavericks, Mountain Lion, and Lion. The vulnerability potentially lets an attacker execute code on your system without your permission using an exploit in Bash, a UNIX shell. Last week, Apple said that “the vast majority of OS X users” were not at risk to the bug unless they had set up certain advanced UNIX services. Users quickly created workarounds to patch the exploit on OS X, as well as Linux and Unix, though this version does it through an installer and without any technical know-how.
