New York City’s Taxi and Limousine Commission approved a pilot plan today that would remove the small backseat screens known as Taxi TV from some yellow cabs, The Guardian reports. Taxi commissioner Meera Joshi told The New York Times that the Commission hopes to replace the televisions with something less “dated,” but so far there’s no official word on what that could be.

The program will slowly replace the screens with new technology from four different companies in up to 1,000 cabs around the city, according to The Guardian. While there is no exact timeline for the implementation, officials hope to eventually get rid of Taxi TV entirely.
