LG’s LTE-connected Android Wear smartwatch will cost $300

LG was the first company to announce an Android Wear smartwatch with built-in LTE connectivity, and today AT&T revealed that the Watch Urbane 2nd Edition LTE (yes, that’s its name) will be available for purchase starting on November 13th. The watch will cost $300, which can be split up over 20 months of payments. Those that sign a two-year contract for service, which runs $10 per month on top of AT&T’s shared data plans, can get the device for $199.99.

The Watch Urbane 2nd Edition LTE will be one of the first devices to support AT&T’s new NumberSync service, which lets you make and receive phone calls and SMS messages from a connected device with your main phone number. The carrier says it will gain that ability early next year. AT&T also announced that the Samsung Gear S2 with LTE and Number Sync support will be available from the carrier starting on November 20th for $300, or $199.99 with a two-year contract.

Though the vast majority of smartwatches available thus far have relied on Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connections to a smartphone to function, many in the industry believe that most smartwatches in the future will have their own connectivity and won’t rely on a smartphone. If you believe that, watches like the Gear S2 and Watch Urbane 2nd Edition LTE are just the tip of the iceberg for what’s to come.
