It may have taken longer than you’d expect from a company that produces screens seemingly in every size, but Samsung has finally announced its first laptop with a 4K display. The ATIV Book 9 Pro is Samsung’s latest addition to its ATIV line of high-end laptops. With a 15.6-inch, 3840 x 2160 touchscreen display and what Samsung is calling “real time HDR enhancements” which sounds like fancy talk for decent brightness and contrast optimization, the ATIV Book 9 Pro may indeed have the best display Samsung has ever put in a laptop.

Samsung has also included the sixth-generation Intel Core i7 processor running at 2.6GHz, 8GB of RAM, 256GB SSD, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 950M graphics card, four speakers, and a 4K HDMI out port in the ATIV Book 9 Pro, which will retail for $1,599. The downside for the 4.45lbs ATIV Book 9 Pro is the battery life, which Samsung has rated at up to 6.5 hours, most likely due to the high-resolution screen. While it isn’t great, it’s still better than the 3.5 hours of battery life we got from Toshiba’s 4K laptop. Samsung is also introducing a second laptop today, the ATIV Book 9 Spin, which holds true to its name, with a display that rotates 360 degrees.

The $1,399 ATIV Book 9 Spin doesn’t come with the 4K screen like the ATIV Book 9 Pro, but does feature a 13.3-inch, 3200 x 1800 QHD+ touchscreen display with the same HDR enhancements Samsung is touting, and can be used in a traditional manner, tablet style, or in tented mode. Samsung has also included an outdoor mode on the 2.87lbs ATIV Book 9 Spin, which will bump the screen up to 700nit of brightness when needed. (The Pro also supports outdoor mode, but only up to 500nit.) With a 2.5 GHz Intel Core i7 processor, up to a little over 7 hours of battery life, and the same RAM and storage as the larger Pro in a more condensed package, the ATIV Book 9 Spin is nothing to sneeze at.
