Star Wars autograph prices reveal stunning anti-Wookiee prejudice

It’s an old practice: if you show up to a convention looking for an autograph from one of the heroes of the rebellion, you may have to pay for the privilege. But a new report from the Star Wars Celebration in Anaheim suggests the practice (like the Force itself) has a dark side.

While Luke pulls down $125 per autograph, female and non-human heroes are commanding less than half that. Leia commands $75 per signature, while C-3PO and Chewbacca get just $50 each. (The emperor gets $90, but he’s not my emperor.) Even worse: Admiral Ackbar, a Mon Calamari strategic genius who played a pivotal role in the destruction of the Death Star II, is getting only $20 per autograph. It’s a trap indeed.

At the same time, there are a lot of pivotal figures who are cut out of the process entirely. Ewoks can’t sign autographs (the pens just get tangled in their fur), but surely we could work out some kind of pawprint system.
