Amazon is slowly stepping into the world of original film to compete with Netflix, and among its first may be a dark comedy starring Kristen Wiig. According to Deadline, Amazon is completing negotiations to finance the comedy, currently going by the title Desired Moments. While Deadline’s phrasing implies that this is not yet a finished deal, there’s reason to believe that it’ll pan out — Ted Hope, who leads Amazon Studios’ original films, had this to say about the story on Twitter:

The film is supposed to be about a man who becomes obsessed with an online wish-granting service. It’s a wonderfully strange sounding plot, and Deadline is describing its script as reminiscent of the work of Charlie Kaufman, Spike Jonze, and Michel Gondry. Commercial and music video director Tom Kuntz — who’s behind such great works as the Electric Six classic “Danger! High Voltage” — is reportedly on board to direct. It’s not stated what Wiig’s role will be in the film; there’s also going to be a male lead, but that person hasn’t been cast yet.

If Amazon does end up grabbing Desired Moments, it could end up being the studio’s second picture. Amazon’s first film, Spike Lee’s Chi-Raq, was announced in July and is being targeted for a release around the end of the year.
