First trailer for Trainspotting 2 asks you to choose life, choose Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram

The sequel to the 1996 cult classic Trainspotting is coming out early next year, and we finally have the first full trailer. The follow-up from director Danny Boyle sees the return of the original cast, and, by the looks of it, a very familiar set of problems. For the trailer at least, Boyle has even revisited to the iconic “Choose life” monologue from the original film, leavening in a handful of modern topics to let you know you’re in the 21st century: Facebook, Twitter, slut shaming, and revenge porn all get mentions. Although apparently everyone is still listening to 1995 club anthem “Born Slippy” by Underworld.

As seen in the trailer, Trainspotting 2 features all familiar faces, including Renton, Begbie, Sick Boy, and Spud. Plot details are thin on the ground, but author Irvine Welsh has said the gang apparently finds a “very innovative” way into the pornography industry. Drugs, drinking, run-ins with the law and Begbie being a psychopath all seem to feature as well. Trainspotting 2 comes out on January 27th next year in the UK and February 3rd in the US.
