Luxury SUVs are all the rage right now: Maserati just announced the Levante a few days ago, there’s the new Bentley Bentayga, a Rolls-Royce in the works, and the Porsche Cayenne and Macan. But let’s bring it back, way back, to the granddaddy of the high-end SUV market — Land Rover, which just announced a $244,500 model customized by British gun manufacturer Holland & Holland. That is nearly a $160,000 premium over the Range Rover’s base price in the US of $84,950.

What do you get for that kind of coin, apart from a clear message to drivers around you that you’re a fan of firearms? It’s mostly about custom paint, upholstery, and paneling, including “a unique dashboard finisher based on the diamond pattern used on the fore end of Holland & Holland rifles and shotguns.” There’s also executive seating in the rear with reclining seats and tables, making the Holland & Holland edition especially well-suited for chauffeuring. And yes, of course, there’s a locking, leather-trimmed gun case in the floor.

Many of us won’t find a gun-themed Range Rover tasteful, but then again, the notion of a $244,500 SUV that gets 16 miles per gallon isn’t necessarily tasteful in the first place. Be that as it may, the luxury SUV market is here to stay: Land Rover is coming off the launch of the Range Rover SVAutobiography in recent months, a much more reasonably priced $199,495 model — just don’t expect a leather-trimmed gun case built into that one.

In the US, the Holland & Holland model is limited to 30 units, available this spring.
