Jeremy Clarkson settles assault lawsuit with Top Gear producer

Former Top Gear host Jeremy Clarkson has settled a lawsuit and formally apologized for assaulting show producer Oisin Tymon, the BBC reports.

The BBC declined to renew Clarkson’s contract last year after an “unprovoked physical and verbal attack,” where Clarkson swore at and punched Tymon. As reported by the BBC, Clarkson has settled a lawsuit over the incident for an amount “in excess of” £100,000, or about $140,000. Both Clarkson and the BBC reportedly contributed to the settlement.

“I would like to say sorry, once again, to Oisin Tymon for the incident and its regrettable aftermath,” Clarkson said, according to the BBC, adding that he was “pleased that this matter is now resolved” and wishing Tymon “every success with his future projects.”

In 2002, Clarkson helped the BBC relaunch Top Gear, which has now become one of the network’s most popular programs. Since the incident, the BBC has signed on a new roster of seven hosts.
